Artist's Statement

Looking for a new hobby after age and wear and tear forced me out of the Over-30 men’s hockey league, I took up oil painting and have been painting ever since. During this time I have participated in a number of workshops in Rockport, MA, Woodstock CT, Ogunquit, ME, Sedona, AZ and Paris, France.

Whether I am observing nature in my own back yard or a busy market scene while on vacation, I have an urge to capture the moment that resonates with me and put it to canvas. I am especially excited about scenes which show strong contrast of light and color. Having been influenced by the Impressionists, I interpret these scenes of everyday life in a way which will bring back fond memories for me and, hopefully, the viewer. My paintings are about my experiences and how I want to remember  them.

My wife, Judy, and I have spent considerable time in beautiful Sedona, Arizona. There I enjoy “plein aire” painting with local southwest artists and the challenge of the beautiful southwest landscapes which contrast greatly from the typical scenes of Europe or New England.
